Hi all,
First of all, I am new to this web board, and want to say hello to all the rail enthusiasts reading this!
My boyfriend and I are very interested in taking a rail vacation by the end of this year. Earlier this year, we took our first rail adventure on VIA across Canada, which was the just amazing. I think we are now hooked on rail travel! We are now wanting to take a great rail journey outside of North America - anywhere really, as long as the accomodations on the train are nice and we have great views during the trip. We are in our early 30s, open to go to any part of the world, and hopefully be able to have a rail journey that allows us to stay over a couple of nights at different places during our journey. As we are rather new to rail travel, any and all suggestions for a great trip would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

If you can go anywhere in the world...

I saw this train in Thailand on a PBS documentary a while back. http://www.thailandtravelsearch.com/thailand/orient_express/

It looked like a lot of fun (but expensive!). It has an open deck on the rear of the observation car, something very rare these days.

Of course, one shouldn't neglect the great train rides available in the good old US of A. Amtrak's California Zephyr travels through some of the country's most spectacular scenery between Emeryville and Denver, expecially in the Rockies. Everyone should do that at least once. For a more upscale tour there's the American Orient Express: http://www.americanorientexpress.com/

Some friends of mine took a train/boat trip to Alaska. Parts of the trip were rides on the Alaska RR & White Pass & Yukon. Here's a link to some pix: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?f=1&i=174869&t=174869

Try this site. It's run by a British train fan, and is an excellent source of info for rail travel all over the world.
