Hi,

I have a trip planned in about 2-3 weeks on the CNO. I used to go to college in Arkansas and have been to New Orleans a couple of times, but not since Katrina. Is it safe to walk from the New Orleans station to a hotel near the riverwalk? (I know it's quite a hike, but it should still be light when the CNO arrives... and I'd be up for it because I will be carrying an overnight bag --- but I don't know what the area around the station... and going to the FQ is like)

Thanks a lot!

I visited New Orleans by train the first week in January. At that time, the area between the train station and Riverwalk, Canal St. and the FQ was still quite empty and had a erie "ghost town" feeling with very few people out and about until you got nearer to the above mentioned areas. I felt perfectly safe walking between the two areas during the day and just kept to the major streets. I did take a cab back to the station when I returned after dark. Cab fare was only $10-15 so if you have any concerns just do that. New Orleans is much changed since Katrina, will likely never be the same, but its citizens will much appreciate your visit.

Hi,

Thanks that helps a lot. I went to college in Arkansas and went to New Orleans several times since it was like 6 hours away then. But, I haven't been back since I moved here to Milwaukee a few years ago. Glad to know it's alteast safe during the day... let's just hope 59 arrives close to that time.

Nice website too there coachclass.
