Last night I watched, on PBS, one of the Rick Steves travel episodes where he boarded a German ICE train.
I was struck by not only the entire ICE train, but I thought the interior of the ICE was very impressive.
The "bucket" seats looked especially comfortable and Rick mentioned that the train has at least 3 levels or types of service. The ICE has a family car and a silent car. Also a car very cellular friendly. It has first class video screens with integrated audio connections for radio.
The first class car has limited passengers, is quiet, and a good amount of privacy. The various classes do vary in price. I have to think many passengers would pay extra for the privacy and comfort of 1st class.
I wonder if the German ICE represents the way of the future for Amtrak tains, not only corridor but also LD, at least with some routes?

Oh well, guess it is 'begathon' time out Richard's way, as the Rick Steves travelogues and music are what the outlet around here, WTTW, bombards you with.
I sent the 'tithing' in a little early this year simply because I had deliberately let my membership in the sister radio station, WFMT 98.7, lapse. For efficiency, I was going to start supporting each on alternating years with no change to my gifting level, but, owing to a tax situation change, I decided not to and I sent them both in together.
But nevertheless, that was not a bad ad for Viking River Cruises (or at least that's the one I got) - well produced, great photography, great music.

Out here, station KQED (San Francisco-Oakland) is our PBS beg-a-thon station. It sometimes seems like 5 min. of program is sandwiched in between 10 min of pledge break.
I saw the Rick Steves program on a sister station of KQED, which doesn't have as many pledge breaks. Unfortunately, the sister station doesn't provide Hi-Def, which really enhances the Rick Steves presentations.
