I'm going on my first Amtrak trip (other than a commuter train). Me and my wife purchased our tickets separately due to needing separate receipts for reimbursement. She purchased the sleeper with her ticket and I just got a regular coach ticket. Will they let me stay in her sleeper or do I need to get my ticket changed? What about meals since the sleeper includes meals for two?
Thanks! Peter

I don't think there will be any problem as long as you have the rail ticket. What do others think?

Peter, you'd better talk to an Amtrak reservations agent. The sleeping car attendant will have a manifest with your wife's name, but not yours, so you could end up sleeping in coach. They may be able to upgrade your ticket on board, and the cost should be the same, but I'd take care of it ahead of time just to be safe and to avoid confusion at boarding time.

I defer to Mr. Toy on this one. It's probably always better to err on the side of caution.

Good point about the manifest, I doubt they would have a problem with it because its not like your paying any less. Just be sute to tip the sleeper attendant.

There is absolutely no problem with doing this. If I recall, you can avoid hassle onboard by calling Amtrak and having them annotate the two reservations to indicate you will be in the sleeper.
