What ever happened to this one. I understand that the train sets are now running in the Northwest. Will LAX / LAS ever happen?

UP track upgrades now halted due to lack of funding. Likely to restart if Amtrak gets their fiscal year funds.

Last month, they ran a Surfliner set with 2 engines on each end (450/463) to do a test/timetable run.

At least they're making progress, it's now the capital funding that's holding it back.

Was the desert tortise issue ever settled? And will the route still by pass Fullerton?

To Southwest Chief:
Yes & yes. The environmental issue w/ the tortise was worked out & the train will go via Metrolink San Gabriel sub. Supposedly saves 20 mins.

Any "thoughts, rumors, visions" (maybe some facts) as to where the station at Vegas is to be located.

My vote would be at Flamingo Road.

I believe the former station area within the Union Plaza hotel is now used for something else; besides, the "action" is elsewhere nowadays.

LAS station plans are for one next to the RIO. The Union Plaza "station" was used for the Key Holidays trip last May.

Glad to learn that, Mr. Cajon.

Rio is on Flamingo Road West of the Strip. On the corner of the Strip and Flamingo are, Caesar's, Bellagio, Bally's, and of course, The Flamingo.

I wold like to know. Could the LA-Las Vegas Train use the SP-Yuma Sub Line to San Bernandino? This is the same Track that the Sunset Limited uses to and from LAUPT. Since there is two other Amtrak Stations on this Line. The Downtown Pomona and the Ontario Station. Both which are already Amtrak Stops. I dont know if this Train would be making another stops. But at lease there will be two Amtrak Station before San Bernandino

If they go that route they might as well go on the BNSF thru Fullerton. Right now they want to go the fastest way to LAS. Til other trains/routes are added it will go Metrolinks San Gabriel sub.

I went to the Metrolink site and it didn't really show which was the San Gabriel Sub. Can anyone tell me which line that actually is or at what stations are on that line?

Metrolink's San Gabriel Sub. is a combination of old SP/PE & Santa Fe lines between LA & San Bernardino.

As mentioned in the post above the San Gabriel Sub is a combination of routes; it even includes a short stretch on the UP (between Mission Tower and the east side of the LA River) where it uses the access bridge that was built to allow UP to get to Los Angeles Union Station.

The route was largely rebuilt when Metrolink opened, including a flyover bridge east of El Monte, double tracking through the Baldwin Park area, and another flyover bridge near San Bernardino.

The line connects with the old Santa Fe near the (North) Pomona. The building is still standing but not used as a station. From that point east it is on the ex-Santa Fe to San Bernardino.
