Could someone help me identify the locomotives heading up long freights past Essex? They look like SD70s to me, but they might be SD60s or something else -- it's hard to tell.

Wonderful pictures Henry! I am looking forward to my trip and stay at the Inn in June. Won't see that snow but I am sure the scenery will still be grand. Oddly, I have been monitoring the westbound arrival times at Essex and am getting disruption messages which are never updated. No arrival times for March 7 and March 9 although that last one did get to Portland only 30 minutes late. Glad to see you here on the forum, you have a lot of knowledge to share.

Excellent Pictures Henry, I am glad to see that those places like the Izaacc Walton Inn do exsist I thought they just might be images of the Japanese Trail Guy's imagination, thanks for the blog.

Yes. for the last three or four days Amtrak's route status website has been out of service. Yesterday the desk clerk at the Izaak Walton Inn phoned either Amtrak or the stationmaster at Whitefish to find out when the train had left Whitefish -- I don't know which. But the van delivered us to the flag stop "platform" in plenty of time to catch the eastbound Builder.

Great pictures and story. It makes me want to head west again.
Didn't the Issac Walton change ownership? Sounds like service is good and is a good spot to hunker down on a frosty night. We'll be making a western swing this summer by car and staying in the caboose might be fun and a break from camping.

Those are GE C44-9W locomotives I asked about -- Googling "BNSF" and the locomotive number pulled up lots of photos and information.
I do believe the Walton changed ownership a few years ago. Service is first-rate. The staff is very friendly and made me, a deaf person, feel right at home.
