As far as the Sunset Limited goes. What safe- guards are in place to ensure the safety of a twelve year old girl travelling on the train alone? Will employees watch over her?
I want to bring my stepdaughter from Tucson Az. to Ontario Ca. to visit her mother and I.
Thanks in advance, George Fontana,Cal.

George, I am not an Amtrak employee, but here is the info printed in their national timetable: Children ages 8 through 11 years may travel unaccompanied on Amtrak trains (not on connecting Thruway [bus] services) during daylight hours if no transfer is required, both boarding and detraining stations are staffed, and with prior written permission from the person in charge at the boarding station. (Such children are not considered "Accompanied" unless they ar etraveling with a guardian aged 18 or over.) Full adult fares are charged; call 1-800-USA-RAIL for details.
I believe the Tucson station is staffed, but I don't know if there is anyone in Pomona. Even so, the trip is scheduled to be an overnight run, with arrival in Pomona some time around 4 am. This train often runs late, though; even so, this sounds risky for a youngster on her own.

Are you serious!?
How could you let a 12 year old girl travel alone?
Not me.
I would never allow such a thing. There are far too many pervs.
I still remember hearing about the guy on a SW airplane that molested a girl in the seat next to him. They could not identify him cause SW does NOT have assigned seats. SICK!
But seriously, there are times when the train stops in the middle of no where and someone could easily slip off with your daughter.
