Looks like one of those engines that was converted to a "cabbage car".....cab and baggage. The head end power is at the other end of the train. It is a real nice photo.

A guess--
Somewhere along the Michigan Corridor. Train sets assigned for that service have NPCU's (cabbages) assigned in that they reverse direction at Detroit for travel to/from Pontiac.
Secondly, from the breadth of the ROW, it would appear that a second track had been removed. This is the case along the Amtrak owned (substantially passenger only) Chi-Kzoo portion of the route.

Jonathan, two things. Firstly, they're great pictures and all that (including the ones on other threads), but not everybody wants them on a mainly-text board. Secondly, you appear to have used a copyrighted photo. Apologies if you did obtain permission first, but there are no credits either.
Oh, and judging by the website where the photo was taken from, it might be somewhere near East Lansing, GBN is probably right!

I'm certainly not a moderator but I would like to point out that there is nothing, that I know of, which prohibits photos on this forum. Those who do not wish to view photos can easily disable them in their browser.
Second, the photo is displayed via a link rather than having been copied and passed off as an original work. It has been held that there is no problem whatsoever with linking to copyrighted material. Permission is not required. Otherwise I could not invite you to view www.cnn.com
Minor points, but our current zeal in self-policing efforts should not go overboard.

Odd. I could have sworn I replied to Kairho. Oh well, I'll do it again.
Perhaps I should have worded my statement better: it should say "unnecessary photos" rather than photos in general. I just wasn't expecting to find an unrelated photo to the message concerned ("hello").
The use of the photo by a link is called "leaching". Basically it is frowned upon (in fact banned by many, Yahoo being a prime example) because you are using that site's bandwidth without giving them any credit for the use of the data. A link back to the site would have been sufficient in this case.
