The 23rd will be my family's first train trip. We will be using the heartland flyer and I was wondering if anyone could give me any information that may be helpful about this specific train. For example; some of my family members smoke, and although this train does not allow it I've been told you can get out on the stops and smoke. Can you check baggage, or is it just carry on and if it is just carry on how large can the bag be? I've been told both it's only carry on, and it isn't so Im quite confused. Any other information someone could give me would be greatly appreciated and very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Smoking is not allowed on this train. I'm not sure if there are stops providing a smoking opportunity (try asking Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL).
Not much about the Heartland Flyer has been posted on this forum, so please let us know about your trip

From Amtrak.. "On trains where there is no smoking, passengers may smoke on station platforms as announced by train crews and must remain next to the track, ready to re-board immediately upon hearing the sound of the locomotive horn and "All Aboard." Train connects at Ft Worth with the Eagle, so full baggage is allowed. There is some over the seat space in racks, but normally luggage is stowed on shelfs in the lower level of the cars.
