something happen to the cardinal? i am trying to book a seat on that train on the net but train number 50 doesnt show up on the reservation screen.

It runs like 3 days a week each way. Train 50 and 51 run on Wednesday, Friday, Sunday And I believe you will get an error if you put a Departure date on a Monday or Tuesday.

If you haven't done so already, check out the "Rail Sale" page on Amtrak's web site. They're offering a great coach fare on the Cardinal. Both directions.

As Uncle Buck alluded to, you probably put in a day on which the Cardinal does not run on your reservation. Westbound #51 departs New York on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Eastbound #50 departs Chicago on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The trip is one night each way, so the arrivals of the trains are 1 day after these departure days.
