Here was my response to I'M I Crazy a few post down for an example.

My friend arrived into Sanford this morning 9:56 AM 14 hours and 28 minutes late. No bus was waiting to
take the passengers on to Winter Park and Orlando but a shuutle van going to the airport took him to his
hotel.

The main delays over 20 minutes were

28 m LAX waiting for equipment to arrive
37 m waiting to replace sleeper.
Rerouted via BNSF to Colton fine
63 m at MT Vernon
23 m meeting UP 3927 W
120 m Broken Rail at MP 725.4
23 m following UP 4148 E Cactus to Yuma
55 m waiting on crew
35 m waiting on UP 2942 and 9336
49 m meet 8582
348 m UP Derailment at Dayton/ran BMT Sub to Beaumont,Texas
25 m Meet BNSF 5340 @GCL Jct
23 m Red Signal LF 259
127 m waiting for BNSF re-crew at Crowley Siding
NOL 9:33 AM to 11:30 AM
63 m held out of Gentilly Yard
25 m detour through Gentilly Yard
30 m meet UP3962 @ Michuad
130 m Cottondale meet #631
They departed TLM 4:17 AM 15 hours and 45 minutes late.

My friend rebooked in NOL so he will leave ORL on Tuesday and is in great spirits. Like I always say "Every
trip is an adventure!"

To sum it up in three simple words: Crappy as usually. I took it LAX to NOL in late June and in early September: 11 hours late and 9 1/2 hours late into NOL, respectively.

The ol' Sunset Limited is back to normal, #1 arrived at LAX 10:55 hours late this afternoon, just in time for sunset.

Jonathon - no, the Sunset Ltd is an all-Superliner train (double-decker), and always has been.

If you love Amtrak so much, why the hell are you complaining about being 14 hours late!? You can have a longer ride on the train if it IS late. More power to lateness! May it happen every trip! (I hope you have a sense of humor!)

I just used that example of a recent trip my friend had who is Richard of Lets Talk Trains He had an enjoyable trip and i used his trip as a recent east trip aboard the Sunset Limited,

Like I always say "Every trip is an adventure!"

More power to you Chrisg! All Amtrak trips are adventures--I've always seen them as such since I was a little kid. I've been from Florida to Vancouver, BC and back via 5 different routes 11 times in the last few years--always fun whether trains were 10 hours late or not!

Yesterday's scheduled arrival of the Sunset Limited pulled into LA's Union Station at 2:43 this morning, over 20 hours late!

What a gawd-awful time to have to get off a train, even in a nice town like LA.

As I've said in prior post, I'm fanatical about trains, BUT I have a preference for MOVING trains. Being idle, seeing the same parcel of land for two, three, four hour hours...stop...go (30mph)...and stop again can get on anybody's nerves. Especially the case in AZ, NM, and TX (not much to see anyway).

I think by now anyone around here knows not to plan any same day connections with the Sunset anywhere on the System.

Only problem, now that this 24 hours late stuff appears all too often to be part of the drill, one does not know whether to book and guarantee a $175 or higher hotel room in LA.
