OK, so I'm watching "Barbecue Paradise" on the Travel Channel a little while ago, and my eye catches a stopped Amtrak passenger train letting people off at Lexington, NC for the annual Barbecue Festival.

I can't find Lexington, NC listed in my timetable, so who's got the skinny on this, i.e., is this a special train(s), what train nos. make the stop, and is there any mention of this service in any Amtrak literature?

Mike -- it would appear it was a special event.

"NCDOT Rail Division
Special Stop at BBQ Festival Lexington October 25 Get train info>
http://www.bytrain.org/ "

did click on the site and it is now advertising a Santa train.

Some one in the area may have more information.

Dee is correct - the Carolinian and Piedmont stop in Lexington, NC for the annual BBQ festival every year. Lexington is about halfway between High Point and Salisbury.

Also during October the Carolinian and Piedmont make special scheduled stops each day for the NC State Fair. The Fairgrounds are across the street from the railroad roughly halfway between Raleigh and Cary.
