Just got back from a quick trip to NYC, where I dined el cheapo in Curry Hill & saw the new American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, well worth visiting.

I notice that the remake of one of my five top NYC films (and my favorite NYC subway film), The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, is due to open shortly. I hope it won't be awful, as remakes too often are. Not sure why it was made, either. . . . But I did see them filming it, near Grand Central Terminal, when I was in NYC in the late spring of 2008. Denzel Washington stars, which could be fine--though of course less comedic than Walter Matthau played the role, I'm guess it may be closer to the original character in the John Godey book (a very good read, btw), but John Travolta, if he has the Robert Shaw role, sounds awful.

sojourner, Mr. Travolta, who lives not far from Ocala, FL, has not been doing all that well since the loss of his son, Jett, not long ago. I too am awaiting the remake of that fine film.

Mr. Green: What's your name, motorman?
Denny Doyle: Uh, Denny Doyle.
Mr. Green: Ever get written up?
Denny Doyle: Uh, yes, sir. Once.
Mr. Green: What for?
Denny Doyle: Running a red signal. How about you?
Mr. Green: Twice. Once on the Canarsie...
Mr. Blue: That's right, Mr. Green. Tell Mr. Doyle all about yourself, will you?
