Is there a chain hotel convenient to the Flagstaff station? I am taking the SWC from Chicago and will transfer to a Thruway to Phoenix the next morning.

Thanks!

The historic Weatherford Hotel is a block from the Amtrak station in Flagstaff. Google Weatherford Hotel. The Rodeway Inn/Downtown is 0.3 miles from the station too.

Check the Drury Inn in Flagstaff. We were in the area for a over a week and this was by far the nicest hotel I saw that was near the station. It is a long walk - maybe a mile - or short cab ride. Always plenty of cabs at train time.

The Drury chain is one of the nicest I have been in - although mostly in the midwest. It's on the edge of U.of Northern AZ. campus and is a new building. Rodeway Inn is cheap and convenient, but a little seedy. If you are looking for a real classic hotel, but definitely a little funky, check out Hotel Monte Vista.

In January of 2008 I did the same as you--took the SW Chief from Chicago, overnighted in Flagstaff, and then caught an early shuttle to Phoenix airport. The place I chose was not a chain hotel but the Monte Vista, a historic and somewhat frayed hotel right by the train station. It was very cheap! The room was a bit dusty but basically clean, just rather old, with a tricky toilet. Used primarily by college students, I imagine--Flagstaff is a college town. I was ready to crash, though, and didn't much care. The place has that old kind of air conditioning though, so I'm not sure what it would be like in summer. I was so tired I phoned for a taxi to take me there when I arrived--it was $5. I walked to the station the next morning. With the time difference and my habit of early rising, I was able to catch the 7AM shuttle, as I recall.

Have fun!
