I no longer ski..too old and have back problems.. but I think this is really good news. The Denver to Winter Park Ski Train, as of last April, appeared to be defunct. Now..Union Pacific to the rescue? Anyway, after 69 years of service it looks like the Denver Ski Train will be back in operation:

That is good, that it is in operation again. I hope it will continue for many years.

What I find most encouraging here is that the Rio Grande Scenic has a couple or three full length dome cars in operation on their excursions out of Alamosa.

It would be very nice to ride up the front range out of Denver in a dome car again.

I think it is interesting that it is estimated that half of the passengers, taking the Ski Train, do not ski! They take it for the pleasure of riding the train and the scenery. They used to have 3 additional cars for charter and for company retreats. I hope that practice continues.

BIG DOMES!! BIG DOMES!!! SANTA FE BIG DOMES!!!

LIRR bi-level (Kawasaki?)

Old IC HW coach, converted to lounge space.

Iowa Pacific has found a win/win. Rather than park its stuff in the rest of CO for the winter, it's gonna take it down to Denver and run 2-5 and 2-6 Denver to Winter Park [Wink]

What a wonderful opportunity! The ride from Denver up to Winter Park is the most scenic part of the most scenic day train trip in America (Denver to Salt Lake City). I'm not at all surprised that people ride the Ski Train just for the train trip itself. With domes, it will be absolutely stunning.

I rode both the California Zephyr (the real one, not Amtrak's) and the Rio Grande Zephyr over the route, so I know what I'm talking about.

I missed the Rio Grande Zephyr experience by just weeks.....

My first trip to Denver came just 6 weeks after Amtrak began operating it's Zephyr via the Rio Grande route and not through Wyoming.

I've since Amtraked 'through the Rockies' a number of times and once even took a Sacramento to Denver trip just to ride a scheduled Wyoming detour and close that gap in my 'routes ridden' book.
