As time change you have to get new stuff, for example if you use the same toothbrush your whole life, all your friends think your wierd and there are better brushes in the market. Its the same with the logo you have to update it like a webpage, and that logo was there first logo since the late 60's ( not sure ). Also like the transformation of the San Diegan to the Pacific Surfliner, out with the old and in with the new. I'm not sure if amtrak has a special reason why they had to change but I think it was time.

I think the old logo should have stayed. I think it is unwise for Amtrak to change its logo. The old one is what people recognize as Amtrak.

The old logo began in 1971 when Amtrak started.

I agree with Konstantin...The pointless arrow had become a national institution of sorts which will now be systematically phased out over the next few years. I'll miss that logo, it has served Amtrak so well and seemed so perfect for them.

It is the stupid new people probably. Just like there use to be Rail-phones on high level lounges, or the former redondo round house. Amtrak is drilling itself into a bad spot by getting rid of old things. Hey Amtrak tried to get rid of the F40's, and that was a huge mistake. they are the work horse of there fleet. Genisis suck with their new computers.

Sure the Gensis P40 and P42s are not the prettiest things to look at but they get the job done. They werent built for the public to look at, They are alot more comfortible and easier to run. Don't get me wrong though, F40s are one of my favorite locos and one of the first locos I ever got to ride. I ve also riden on the amtrak California F59s. Other then the isolated cab, there as loud and bouncy as the F40s

I think Amtrak got some political marketing hacks that don't have a clue about trains. If you think the new logo is bad, you should have seen the adds up in the northeast to market the new Acela(sp ?) Service. First of all, who came up with the word Accela, what does it have to do with speed or railroading? It sounds like a disease. (Sorry Mr Jones you suffer from advanced chronic Acela.) Then Amtrak ran lots of meaningless advertisements that did not even show a train; these ads were artsy-fartsy ads some in black and white, some with just cutesy sayings, then it would end with the Acela logo. If you have seen the Acela logo, you would understand why some people were wondering whether or not some company was marketing a new wonder-bra.

Don't even get me going on the technical screw-ups of Acela.

I think Amtrak thought the OLD "pointless arrow" sign was not proper for thier growth since it was not pointing to anything. Just kidding. But they did changed the Logo. But according to many other they still remember the old logo.

Though it was pointless but it was far better than new one .

I think the new logo is great. Hopefully Amtrak can become as forward thinking & acting as the logo. Reggie
