What's the best way to pull the worm gear off an N-scale motor's shaft? I tried pulling one off a Minitrix K-4's motor with a small pair of pliers and mangled the gear. Is there a special tool, like a teensy-weensy gear puller? Or is there a trick to it? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

There very well could be. But I dont know of any off hand. My advise would be to puruse the Micro Mark catalalog and see what you can come up with. They have all sorts of good things that come in handy for our purposes.

Thanks, James! I checked with Micro Mark and they have a gear puller on sale for $5.95. It's perfect for pulling a wheel off an N scale axle, but it's still too big for what I need. After I looked at its picture, however, I realized that I can make a similar tool to slip behind the gear and push the shaft out. I will build it using a pin vise chuck, which will hold the shank of a broken drill bit (I have several of those). I'll pick one slightly smaller than the motor shaft diameter and placing the broken end inside the chuck, use it for a push-rod. Voila! Again, a big thank you! I think my problem is solved. LJ
