Hi,

I've been trying to find some information about railroad dispatching on the net, but having little success so far. It seems that it is a fairly neglected subject matter. Even Trains magazine, which I can get here in UK, rarely mentions it.

Does (a) anybody know of any decent sites with photos (inside dispatch centers rather than photos of the outside of the buildings!); and (b) anybody know whether visits to these places be arranged?

I have seen SignalCC's dispatcher software but I want to see the real thing.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

Geoff M.

Once in a while, Trains, or another RR magazine, will visit a center and get some photos. The most-recent was sometime in 2001, if I remember correctly. You might want to check 'trainsmag.com' and look for back issues.

Good luck,
Eric

Try this link to George Noller's Dispatcher's Office site: http://www.linkline.com/personal/gnoller/trainidx.html
He's a power dispatcher w/ Edison who took up train dispatching as a hobby. He's very knowledgable on the subject so email him.

Further to the above, I did get a nice reply from Norfolk Southern (I emailed all the big railroads). They said no, quoting heightened security since 9/11 mainly. I'm not surprised, but at least somebody has the courtesy to reply.
