With all the ports closed down rail traffic is also down sharply. The ripple effect has already begun...the New United Motors car plant in Fremont, CA had to stop work because the parts they need are still at one of the ports.

I drive by the BNSF mainline on my way to CSUF(Cal State Fullerton) everyday. Usually I see an eastbound intermodal freight daily. But I have only seen westbounds and traffic is considarably down! It seems that Metrolink is more prevalent now!

Right now is a good time to check out all the railyards, my hubby did that yesterday and he said hundreds of locos are parked.

You couldnt tell there was a crisis in LA when we were at Tehachapi Saturday, it was busy as usual. 'Course, none of it was intermodal.

I rode the Surfliner up to Camarillo on Saturday 5th. Saw two southbound (eastbound per SP?) freight trains: 1 'single stack + TOFC' near Burbank, and an 'oil can' around 1PM near Simi Valley.

Saw no freights outside of the yards along the BNSF between LA and Fullerton. Drove out to Placentia in the morning; saw no activity at all...

With the President getting ready to invoke Taft-Hartley, I think you're going to get more action than you can get to...

Don't expect any large increase in train traffic real soon. The workers "MAY" go back tomorrow as per the news tonite (10/8). Then it will take a day or 2 to get things rolling again. So don't be looking for any influx of trains until this weekend. But that depends on IF the workers actually go back to work!

Reported seen through Riverside this morning:
1 U.P. Ebd(i-m)
1 BNSF Ebd(i-m)
1 BNSF Wbd(baretable).

So traffic is starting to resume.
