We saw 9700 cruising southbound yesterday in Bakersfield, noted the plaque on it's nose...what is so special about this rig? Is it Dash 9 #1 or something??

I tried serching the net for info but I gave up, I figured I'd ask my fellow railfans :-)

I may be wrong, but I believe the 9700's class of C44-9W's are ex-Chicago Northwestern, which was the first railroad to order DASH 9's. 9700 may well be GE's first DASH 9.
