While in Sherwood, Oregon this afternoon I saw a dead BNSF military train. It looked like it was moving a sizable number of Humvees and other military trucks. I thought this was odd because this was on the old Newberg to Cook line of the SP that Portland and Western leased from SP before the UP merger. The line is in really rough shape and has been out of use since February, 2004 when Portland and Western began using the Oregon Electric line to haul up and down the Willamette Valley. Why wasn't this train on the UP class I line?? Another concern was total lack of security around the train. I watched the crew leave and the train was left alone for several hours, right in the middle of suburbia. Anybody have info on this one?? Where it was heading? Thanks!
