Heads up Tehachapi fans!! I have been reading this INCREDIBLE DETOUR news item on the Trainorders Amtrak discussion. This is apparently involving Amtrak PRESIDENT David Gunn so this thing will probably happen. This would be as I understand it the first time since 1974 (31 YEARS !!) that Amtrak has operated over Tehachapi:

Instead of going down the Coast, it will be going south from Sacramento to Fresno via the UP and then via the BNSF from Fresno to LA VIA TEHACHAPI!!!!.

(10/23) Author: stevedavis Supposedly this move is being made to move David Gunn's biz car to LA, per a long-established itinerary that got interrupted by the trackwork in Santa Clara. Gunn pulled strings at UP and got the one-time move. 11 will operate SAC-BFD via the San Joaquin (BNSF) route, and then into LA by way of Palmdale and Metrolink thru Newhall and Burbank to LA.
