The shuttle was seen flying over Dallas, Texas early in the morning. Columbia was scheduled to land at 9:16 ET but NASA had lost contact with the shuttle before the landing time.

The Columbia has been declared destroyed, with all hands lost. No one is certain what happened, but the investigation will continue.
My prayers go to the families, friends, and co-workers of the astronauts.
