I am planning a trip to Altoona, PA on the Three Rivers in April and wanted to know how far the Horsehoe Curve is from the Amtrak Station Downtown. Would I have time to walk there if I arrive early afternoon and leave at about 9 that night? Also, is the Railroaders Museum there worth a visit? Thanks for any info.

I don't have my map books with me at the office, but the Horseshoe Curve is about 5-6 miles (at least) west of downtown Altoona, and up the mountains -- it would be a LONG LONG walk, I'm afraid!! I don't know much about transit in the area, but maybe you could take a taxicab there or something--
