I am a first time traveler on the CZ next week going from Chitown to Glenwood and wondering how the train is against it's schedule recently, except for the derailment. Also anybody got a way to beet the Union station $15 parking rate for a week?

In terms of on-time running, the California Zephyr has only left Union Station on time 7 Times over the last 34 Days. Sometimes only a few minutes late, sometimes up to 1 and 1/2 hour. Not sure why.

Hope this helps.

The derailment did delay the CZ for several days, but is no longer affecting Amtrak as both the mainline and siding through Plainview (where the derailment occurred) are back to normal use, albeit with a slow order (which might have been lifted by now).

While the CZ may have left Chicago late, it can make up time enroute (I believe some time is built into the schedule for attaching mail/freight cars after leaving CUS).

Glenwood Springs was great - I was there last week. Try the outdoor pool right opposite the station. The river rafting is good as you may go down Glenwood Canyon alongside the rail tracks!
