Well ok not completely true..I took the Napa Wine train once, but in my mind that didn't really count

I took the California Zephyr from Emeryville to Reno this weekend and had a wonderful trip to Reno. Unfortunately due to circumstances out of my control, I ended up renting a car from Reno to get back to Emeryville. The short version of the story is, I needed to get back to Oakland, and the Zephyr was an hour late, then right as it was approaching the station it hit and killed a pedestrian sleeping on the tracks. Based on the delays I have heard related to Caltrain when it came to pedestrian accidents, I decided that I had better find an alternate route home.

I'll be posting pics (and a link) from the eastbound portion of the trip later today or tomorrow and I'll post a link here.

Well, I've been on a train that won the race with a car at a crossing (as they always do), Earth minus one resident. Train was on the move again in 2.5 hours, stopped 10 minutes later for a crew change (crew out of time) which took an hour. So anything from 3-4 hours if the train doesn't sustain damage, which ours didn't (not even a scratch upon examination at Chicago later that day).
