Next week I plan to depart Chicago on a trip out to Fullerton, CA on the Chief.

Could any of you who follow train time-keeping regularly tell me what sort of "record" the Chief has had lately arriving into California---just in general.

About how late can I expect to arrive in Fullerton ?

I have plans for the day and hope that there is a "fair" chance the train will not arrive too, too late.

I remember a ride I took on the Chief into L.A. about two years ago when it actually arrived a half-hour EARLY into the city.

This is one of my favorite trains and hopefully I can enjoy a rather "uneventful" trip. I will stay in California for only two nites and take the Chief BACK to Chicago.

.....although , come to THINK about it , is ANY trip on Amtrak lately "UNEVENTFUL" ??

For the past few days it's been anywhere from OT to 3 hrs down. Today's train is listed as OT at Lamy. Gotta love the BNSF! Last time I rode #4, we moved out of LAX OT but fell 2 hrs down hooking up express. Arrived CHI an equal 2 hrs down. My favorite train too and say hello to The Land of Enchantment for me when you go through ok?
<wistful sigh>

You can generally count on the Chief being on time unless weather or mechanical problems interfere.

I have seen it come in late to LAX, but I agree with the other posters above, usually only a couple hours.

BNSF loves those incentive payments from Amtrak for keeping the trains on time!
