Of note is the suggestion that Amtrak California busses may be employed to fill the void. Might history repeat itself? Amtrak took over the passenger trains, and Amtrak California may take over abandoned bus routes. Is Amair next?

Mr Toy - did I read somewhere that Monterey is among the places being dropped by Greyhound?
Regarding the link to this particular newspaper story it's worth pointing out that the Greyhound stop in Arroyo Grande is less than three miles from the Amtrak station at Grover Beach and the efficient local bus service links the two every hour throughout the day as well as the SCAT service which runs Santa Maria-Arroyo-Grover-Pismo-SLO calling at Greyhound in Santa Maria, Amtrak in Grover Beach and at both Amtrak & Greyhound in SLO. It's disappointing that neither the SLO Council nor the newspaper saw fit to mention this despite expressing concern for those people who supposedly don't have alternative transport to take them to other stops!!
Just a thought - given that the population of the "five cities" (Grover, Pismo, Arroyo, Oceano & Nipomo?) must be somwhere around the 60,000 mark does the final withdrawal of Greyhound from the area (they dropped the stop at Pismo Beach some years ago) mean there might be a case for lobbying for the Coast Starlight to start calling at Grover Beach?
ps:Pismobum might be able to confirm this but didn't Greyhound drop Pismo Beach as a direct result of Amtrak opening the new station in Grover somewhere about 1996/97?

Greyhound dropped Palatka, FL for more than 10 years and then re-instituted the stop a few years ago. Now the county has created a transportation center which is also the Greyhound office and stop, the Amtrak stop and office, a taxi stand and office and the local Ride Solution bus terminal. It goes both ways with Greyhound--sometimes killing stops, sometimes re-creating them!

Mr. Williams, A friend mentioned that Greyhound was dropping Monterey, but I haven't seen any mention in the local news. However, the Greyhound site no longer has Monterey on their station list. So I guess it is true. We do have Amtrak busses, though.

Thanks, Pojon. I'll have to try to go out of Palatka next time (usually use Deland now that Ocala is kaput) to check out the new digs. Is the caboose still there?
