Word reached me late last night that Norm Mineta's 'Road Show' of Misleading Media Events will make an appearance at the Amtrak Station in Charlotte, NC at 12:30pm Tuesday, February 22.

The intent of these events seems to be one of obscuring this administration's true intent vis-a-vis Amtrak.......claiming for instance that bankrupting Amtrak will lead to reform and that what emerges next will be a more rational system which better serves the rail passenger. I'm paraphrasing but that's essentially the gist of the message. Is it just misleading or an absolute lie?

At any rate, the Charlotte appearance seems timed to ride the PR coattails of an event lauding the numerous North Carolina state funded station improvements in recent years. Sneaky indeed!

The Carolina Associaition For Passenger Trains and NARP are calling for any Passenger Rail Supporter who can possibly make the trip to turn out for picket line duty. I can't say for certain that I will be there yet BUT have every intention of doing what I can (like getting ahead in the office Monday) in order to do my part Tuesday.

The more the merrier.........

Advocating for passenger trains since 1973!

Climbing toward 5,000 posts like the Southwest Chief ascending Raton Pass. Cautiously, not nearly as fast as in the old days, and hoping to avoid premature reroutes.

I hope some of you are able to talk with that hack.

Though I understand Mineta doesn't like to take questions or actually listen to people, given the account I read of his CUS appearance, where he was hustled in and out like some stupid celebrity.

What a sell-out Mineta is.

Kind of like his boss.

The account from Chicago passed on to CAPT members reports that a few dozen protesters disrupted the event to the point that they had to move to the Metropolitan Lounge and allow only reporters inside.

We've been cautioned that it is unlikely we'll actually be allowed to attend the press conference.......but that it would be nice to have a sidewalk full of Amtrak supporters with signs when the circus comes and goes.

Sooooo.......anyone have suggestions for what my sign should say?

I'm torn between.....

'ALL of America Wants Trains! Fully Fund AMTRAK!'

or.....

'Spend Federal $$$$ on Amtrak, not Mineta's Media Circus'

Suggestions anyone?

Thanks,
David Pressley

Both sound good to me.

Maybe short is better, but if you want another word, how abou "Mineta's Misleading Media Circus.

Stongly suggest avoiding Amtrak versus Iraq comparisons. Keep it a transportation thing.

Don't pave the world, speed up the tracks.

Quit sending our money flying, Keep it on track.
