I went to amtrak.com to see fares for the Southwest Chief and it says there is a problem with an error code. I then went to check the train status and it came back with a no service message. Can you please tell me what is going on? Amtrak still shows the Southwest Chief route guide. I want to take the train to Lamy in August and hope this is temporary.

I have relatives coming in June who might want to go on the SWC with me and I would be glad to do it more than once. I hate to hear the news that Amtrak is stopping the route. What is very nerve-wracking is that there is no info on amtrak.com about the problems. Is it a website error where the phone reservation agent can help me or is it an entire service problem.

Why is it when there is a problem with the Coast Starlight Amtrak posts info and not for the SWC.

Was there an accident involving the SWC? If so can you please point me to the news articles. No info on trainweb.com.

No accident, no discontinuing route...just an Amtrak website error, just call 1(800)USA-RAIL and talk to Julie or an agent.

I get this sometimes also: Problem With Our Booking System: Sorry, we are temporarily unable to process your request. Please try again.

And despite the makover a couple of years back, it is still not particularly 'user friendly'.

Climbing toward 5,000 posts like the Southwest Chief ascending Raton Pass. Cautiously, not nearly as fast as in the old days, and hoping to avoid premature reroutes.
