Yessir, that's right!!! We will be leaving Saturday for our "trains, planes, and automobiles" trip (without the planes) out West!! We are looking forward to it, but I did have to make one final change to our AMTRAK reservations over the weekend -- after tracking the arrival of #30 (Capitol Ltd) into WAS for the last 3-4 weeks and realizing that on MANY days it arrived too late to make the connection with #91 (Silver Star), I have changed to #97, the Silver Meteor, which I think we have a better chance of making the connection to in WAS.

So we are soon off and running!!! Again if anyone is going to be "out on the rails" the next 3 weeks, here is our AMTRAK itinerary:

July 1 - WPK to WAS on Train #98
July 2 - WAS to CHI on Train #29
July 3 - CHI to ESM (Essex, MT) on Train #7

July 15 - FLG to CHI on Train #4
July 16 - CHI to WAS on Train #30
July 17 - WAS to WPK on Train #97

Will this be my last AMTRAK trip ever?.......... (reference other recent posts initiated by BNSF 1088)

Hope you have a lovely trip. Hopefully all will be better on the tracks on Saturday.

Don't forget to report back when you return. I am esp interested on the tourist portions of ESM to FLG!

Don't miss the warm huckleberry cobbler with ice cream at the Izaak Walton Inn. You'll arrive as a passenger & leave as cargo, but it's worth every delightful mouthful!

Thanks everyone! Yes I will post a trip report when we get back. Ms. Sojourner -- the portion from ESM to FLG will be by rental automobile -- no trains that portion, except we will be riding the Durango & Silverton narrow-gauge when we are in Durango.

Judy - the warm huckleberry cobbler at Izaak Walton Inn has been duly noted -- we will try it!!

Rich, If you get a desire for Chinese food in Durango we found a great restaurant (which I hope is still there) called the Golden Dragon. It was very crowded while the one across the street had only one couple in it. I hope the rain stops in DC by the time you get here. If not you may need an ark rather than a train. If your trip takes you to Aztec, Co. the Indian ruins there are very interesting. I will be eager to read your report on your return. Bon Voyage!!

Rich - the hash browns at the Izaak Walton are highly recommended as well. Enjoy.

I think we've talked before about the 'other' narrow guage. If you have the opportunity to visit the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad while you're in the area it would be time well spent.

Tomorrow is the big day!!!! Service on the Florida trains has been restored after the flooding in WAS, and the Capitol Ltd appears to be up and running just fine--

So I will be "offline" for a couple weeks -- happy 4th of July, everyone! I will report on our trip when we return!!!

Have a fabulous trip. Thank goodness you are not taking the Lakeshore Ltd; no service between Albany and Buffalo since Wednesday! Very bad flooding
