Try "Progressive Railroading" Track Yearbook, published in January of each year. It carries articles about, and advertisements for, various types of fastening systems.
Another source is the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance Association (AREMA). They publish a manual of track standards, available on DVD. You'll have to pay for it, though.
For use on wood ties, your choices basically are:
Conventional cut spikes, double shoulder plates DS plates and lock spikes Rolled Pandrol plates, pandrol fasteners McKay plates and fasteners
For concrete ties, you MUST use an elastic fastener. Most common are Pandrols and McKays, but there are other systems as well. Type of fastener must be specified when the ties are ordered so the right type of shoulders can be installed.
Does any of this help?
