Due to a derailment on BNSF in Iowa, #5(12) hitched a ride on the rear of the SW Chief out of Galesburg, IL to Kansas City. From there, the Zephyr wended its way over "forbidden" rails from KC to Lincoln before continuing its journey on its normal route many hours late.

Another nail in the coffin of the theory that Amtrak is inflexible and not resourceful.
