I didn't make this up, honest.

From today's Minneapolis Star Tribune 8/23/07:

"AMTRAK STILL DISRUPTED BY FLOOD-DAMAGED TRACKS"

"Amtrak train service on the Empire Builder between Minneapolis and Chicago remained disrupted Wednesday and today because of Canadian Pacific Railroad track closures through flooded areas of southeastern Minnesota. About 28,800 travelers had made the trip on chartered buses since Sunday, according to Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari.

".... Since trains generally make better time than buses, Amtrak was addressing missed connections with chartered transportation or complimentary lodging in Chicago until the next connecting train."

Even if you drop a zero off the 28800 then you still end up with over 300 pax per train. I know it can be fairly busy but...?

Presumably tomorrow's headline will read "Ridership up 2,000% on Empire Builder"?

Mr. Rocket, are you questioning the accuracy of the article?

I thought the Star Tribune is considered the newspaper of record in the "Land of 10,000 Flakes." Or am I confusing that paper with the Lake Wobegon Times?

(Ah, jeez, I don't know what makes me do this. I actually love Zip Code 5. But see, I keep hearing these voices and....You understand, don't you, Mr. Rocket?)
