Hello,

We are two Digital Media degree students and we are making a short film about the railway. We where wondering if anyone with intresting Railway memories or stories could email us at phoenix-productions@hotmail.co.uk. It does not matter if your stories/memories are long, short, past, present or involving someone else, we are looking for a broad range!

This would really really help us thank you so much in advance,

Nikki and Dan

This sounds interesting, but how much are you paying your subjects for their time?

OOH Henry, the professional writer is coming out! I'd be more interested in understanding how our memories help make a short film. what are the guidelines?

Mr. Black, I will confess that such a vague request from "students" whose email address is that of a production company raised suspicions in my mind. Are they trying to produce something on the cheap for commercial use? If so, wouldn't their interlocutors deserve compensation for their time and their memories?

If this is purely student work and is unlikely to see the light of day, then of course there's nothing wrong with giving young folks a leg up. (Others might be loath to do students' homework for them.)

Hello Sir,

My name is Nicola Henderson. I am the student who posted the above post. I just wished to clarify a few things.

First was the email address. I am a second year student and in my first year one of the challenges was set up a production company, part of which included email, when doing work like this I now use this email as it sounds better than my personal email address.

I am a student in Blackburn, lancashire, Uk. I am on my second year doing a degree in Digital media Design. As is Dan, the student I am working with in the group.

This is the Course information: http://www.blackburn.ac.uk/site/elihe/highereducation_courses.asp?course=240

Which if you desire I can get one of my tutors to write you an email, or you can email them yourself, their email address will be othe the website I assume.

I can also included a picture of my student ID if you are still concerned that I am not a student here.

Although I would love to, we can sadly offer no form of financial reward for help, as our fees are high and neither of us get any form of grant so we are left to pay it ourselves.

Finally, the reason that we are asking for peoples help is because, while we could make-up stories and memories etc, we decided that we want real memories and real stories, things that will make people smile. We have already interviews a few people in our local area, however we thought that the people with the most intresting stories would be people who love the railway, which is way we posted here.

I hope that this has cleared up the matter for you, and I really do hope that you would consider helping us, as i am sure you have many intresting stories to tell.

If you dislike sending to the phoenix email address my personal one is nikki_h80@hotmail.com.

Finally if you would like to see other pieces of our student work then we have a youtube account with the work posted, http://www.youtube.com/user/phoenixproductions07

Thank you.

Dear Mr Black

Thank you so much for considering to help us. We are making a short movie of about 8 mins, with the theme of the railway.

We are hoping to create a intresting and creative piece of film with voice speaking their differnt memories while visually they are displaying creatively. (I hope that makes semse, sorry I am very tired it has been a long day!)

We are going to use different camera styles, different colours and bits of animation etc. Therefore we are hoping to get a range of stories and memories. This will be our main starting point and the main feature of the movie.

If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask!

Thank you so much for considering to help, it means a lot to us.

Nicola

Those are interesting responses, but I'm still puzzled. If this is a film project based in the UK, how do you plan to incorporate visual memories of riding US trains into it? A vague statement about visual creativity doesn't really show what you have in mind.

Please forgive me for thinking that there is something missing in this endeavor.
