Later this week I'll be visiting one of my son's and his family in St. Louis Park, MN, a suburb of Minneapolis. According to NARP's latest hotline, the eastbound E.B. will detour between MSP and CHI on the day I head back home (Nov. 4) because of CP track work. None of the intermediate stops will be made and the train may get delayed up to 90 minutes. (This should prove no problem connecting with the LSL, as there is a 6-hour layover in Chicago.)

Many on this forum are quite familiar with the various rail lines in the Midwest. Could someone tell me what route is likely to be used between MSP and CHI. I'd like to review it on maps that I have so that I'll know where I am.

Darn! Sorry, Mr. Norman and others, for the misplaced apostrophe!

It could use the BN main line (former CBQ, via La Crosse, WI, E. Dubuque, & Savanna, IL) - which goes down the east side of the "Father of Waters." I suspect that this will be the detour route, as this has been the detour route during the recent past.

During one detour of 1995, the Builder went via the ex-CNW route of the 400, through western and central WI. I suppose the Builder could also take the former Wisconsin Central route ( now Canadian National ) via Steven's Point and Fond Du Lac, but I don't know for certain.

The NARP blurb did not specify which route would be the detour route.

Bob from MA: In the larger scheme of things a wandering apostrophe is trivial, extremely trivial, but you CAN edit your posts and get rid of those misteaks. Just click on the page-and-pencil icon, make the fix, then click on Add Reply. Nobody need know if you catch your blooper early enough. I do it all the time.

You put misteaks in there just to catch us, right Henry? I know you have a hearing deficit, but you're an ace speller.

George, a misteak is when your wife sends you to the butcher for t-bone and you come back with flank.

If only my wife would send me for T-bones even once... preferably 8-week matured Argentinian that you can cut with a butter knife... mmmm.

Bob, if you like I can email you a (legally) scanned map of the area. Won't be until Tues night at the earliest (though I note you're off soon) as I'm not home until then. PM me your email address (click on the handshaking/envelope icon).
