I think Máire Ní Muimhneacháin ought to have more pressing things to worry about instead of Muiceoil Rialú, really…
And to be frank, turning the Farley Post Office into a concourse is not the same as "rebuilding Penn Station".

You should have seen the original spelling. There used to be a diacritical mark called a buailte, sort of a reverse "dagesh" (for those familiar with Hebrew); it was a single dot that appeared on top of the letter, indicating that the pronunciation of the letter was of a guttural or fricative nature. The buailte was replaced with a digraph with "h" when Irish Gaelic was standardized. Vowels in Irish, though, generally follow Latin pronunciation rules, as does the letter C (always "hard", like K).

All right, Irishchieftain, exactly what are you a professor of, and what university do you haunt? You clearly are an educated person, probably one with an advanced degree.
