While I should defer to Mr. Palmland on this point as CSX was not my road, it would appear that once upon a time the crew districts were Jax-Madison-Tallahasse-Chattahoochee (SCL/L&N interchange)-Flomaton-Pascagoula-New Orleans, but I'll bet that first with the Basic Day being lengthened from 100 to 130 miles and with the merger of the SCL and L&N into CSX, several of those points are now run-through.

Mr. Norman, I think you mean Pensacola, not Pascagoula. Pascagoula is between New Orleans and Mobile, and that crew district has always been New Orleans - Mobile (140 miles). Pensacola is 105 railroad miles east of Mobile because the line runs via Flomaton rather than direct. Pre Amtrak, I believe that the crews for points east of Flomaton originated there. Flomaton - Pensacola (44 miles) may have been a short district, but I don't really know.

I think, Mr. Harris, I should have reviewed the originator's inquiry a bit more carefully noting he was inquiring of Mobile and not New Orleans.

Quite likely from the time that the November 27, 1972 Agreement with U-2 (similar one with BLE, date of such I know not) was negotiated at National level, in which Carriers gained the prerogative to run through previously established terminals, in all likelihood, both SCL and L&N starting running through several terminals such as Madison FL. The principal Carrier concessions were a higher rate of pay and "job protection' (no furloughs arising from run throughs; my question regarding the latter was how do you determine if a furlough is a result of a run through or simply the normal requirements of service "ebb and flow")

Mr. Norman,

I missed Mobile instead of New Orleans as well. My thing was that when you said Pascagoula (in Mississippi) you meant Pensacola (in Florida)
