A friend of mine (female) has a business meeting at a hotel near Hartford Airport. The hotel has an airport shuttle which will meet her at Windsor Locks Amtrak Station. However, when she is coming home on the Vermonter, the hotel shuttle will obviously not stay with her at Windsort Locks, and the station is unmanned. If the Vermonter is really late, will this be a problem? Is the area around the station safe? Will there be other people (on a weekday) waiting with her?

The hotel shuttle will not take her all the way to the Amtrak station in Downtwon Hartford. She could, of course, take surprisingly pricey, so she would rather use Windsor Locks if she can.

Does anyone have any advice?

Sojourner

check this photo of the Windsor Locks Amtrak "station"

http://www.trainweb.org/usarail/windsorlocks.htm

it is no more than a bus shelter.

It is located about 10 miles from my home, so I am familiar with it. It is near a road that is busy during the day, but there is not a lot of people waiting for trains there.

I personally would not wait for a train there unless I had someone with a car (doors locked) waiting with me. (I have not heard of anything bad happening here - just think it is prudent to err on side of caution.)

There is limo service from Bradley Airport to both Hartford, CT and Springfield, MA (both about same distance from airport). I would consider it worth the price. You would need to check where the limo drops off in each city.

Dee

PS
This is website for CT Transit which runs an hourly bus service from Bradley Int to downtown Hartford. I have never used this particular bus, but it is typical big city bus service.
