I just got this message from WADOT. Luckily, this will be just after our trip from Seattle to Vancouver.

That's strange....I wonder if there is a "story behind the story"? They just came out of overhaul a few weeks ago!

Last time I took the train from Seattle to Vancouver BC, the northbound trip had a substituted Superliner. It was actually GREAT because there was an observation/lounge car. WE spent the whole trip at the window (left side facing foward) and felt like we were practically in the Sound . . . .very very nice
Southbound I cannot recall what we had. But I did take a Talgo a few days later after leaving Seattle on the dreaded Salem trip. It was fine to Portland, then A/C broke, and it was a hot day! After overnight in Salem, I caught the Starlight down to Sacramento and the Zephyr home (it was REALLY late that time, but I got to see the Salt Flats)

sojourner----I know this is off-topic, but I thought you might get a kick out of this. Last week, I met the Executive Producer to "Monk"! He had just walked out of a table read for the 3rd to last episode of the series. He was a great guy, and he is going to grab some Monk stuff from the set and send them to me! I also asked if we will find out who killed Monk's wife (Trudy), and he said YES!

We will find out who killed Trudy!!! Great, thanks for that tidbit Smitty.
Sojourner - Is an "observatin lounge car" what I am familiar with on the Sunset Limited or Chief? And on the Starlight when they don't have the PP (which is usually when I am on the CS).

From another website, someone just posted the reason for the Superliners being used. Here is a copy: __________ Amtrak Superliner equipment will be temporarily substituted for the Talgo equipment on trains #510 and #517 beginning October 2, 2009 for maintenance. The Talgo trains are expected to return within a week. This is because the FRA will be out here testing class P32 and P42 GE locomotive for tilting running speeds. They will be doing this in the middle of the night but will use the Talgo set for this. Once the tests are complete the set will be returned to use. Maximum is seven days but more likely only three.

I sure hope you guys get a Parlour Car. The Coast Starlight is so much more enjoyable when it's along for the ride. According to a friend, they've been running with one on pretty much every trip now. On the rare occasion where they don't have one, a Sightseer Lounge or a Diner has replaced it.
