Well, Amtrak automation is at it again. I am planning a trip to and from Kansas this month. On the return leg, I have reservations for the SW Chief, originally scheduled to board at Topeka at 1:09 AM on Tuesday Oct 19 (what most of us might describe as very late Monday night), and get to LA on Wednesday morning at 8:15 AM. In effect, this is two nights on the train, and one full day (Tuesday).
So just now I get both automated phone messages and e-mails informing me that the schedule has been changed, ans I am to board at Topeka "at 12:29 PM on October 19, 2010" and arriving in LA at 8:15 on October 20, 2010. So it looks like the train is just going to be earlier to Topeka, right? BUT, 12:29 PM, from my parochial and public school education, is in the middle of the day!!!! So now I have to call and find out just for sure what the heck they are talking about.
After the call, it of course is AM. The attenant only sees AM on her screen, so I offered to forward the e-mails, but she didn't want them.

Sounds like a minor error slipped through-- if you show up at 12:29 PM, that train will be 12 hours down the road! But it would be nice to see that part of the country in the daylight, though. That is one of those "eternal" night sections of the Amtrak system, unless the trains are running way late...still enjoy your trip, and maybe you can post up your experiences after you're home?
