On Friday I took train 784 from SBA to GDL. The train was 15 minutes late out of its point of origin, Goleta, and we stayed about that amount of time late all the way. (I believe the delay ws caused by an unusual train I'll mention in a separate post.) Business Class quickly filled up as did coach. The conductors announced several times that "there would be 100 standees" from Los Angeles to San Diego and there were repeated announcements about the cafe seats only being for people who bought something in the cafe. Several warnings were given to people who were getting off to smoke. "If you do it again, that will be your last stop."
The BC car was clean and there was a dedicated attendant who passed out the snack packs and then came through with a plastic milk crate full of beverages. Not a very class way to handle it. She also dragged the big cardboard trash receptacle down the aisle to pick up trash.
After dinner with friends in Glendale, they dropped me at Union Station. It was buzzing! There was a private function in the unused former ticketing area and another in the former Fred Harvey Restaurant. I can confirm Miss Vicki's report of additional concessions. There are now Subway, Wetzel's Pretzels, Starbucks, a See's candy cart and a convenience store/Deli.
I headed through the tunnel to Patsouris Plaza and caught the 8PM Flyaway to LAX. 26 minutes and $7.00 later we were at Terminal One!
My next train trip will be next month SBA/SAN to catch a NB cruise to Vancouver. We'll follow that with the Cascades to Seattle with an overnight before boarding the Coast Starlight for SBA.
Frank in sunny and warm SBA.
