Amtrak Cascades has a new on-board safety video starring Grant Goodeve. (I know you've been wondering what happened to him since Eight Is Enough went off the air.) There's nothing remarkable about the video, but it might be interesting to some as a guided video tour through the interior of a Talgo trainset.

Thanks for posting this link, Vincent. I've forwarded it to friends who will be taking the Cascades train from Seattle to Vancouver to join us on a cruise. We would be taking the train from SBA to SEA and on to YVR again but time is a problem (we'll be on the ship 28 days) and we got a great deal non-stop LAX-YVR on Alaska ($99.00 ow).

Wow. This video is about a gazillion times better than the one I saw on an endless loop in Uncle Joe's weekend rehab project (aka - Seattle's King Street Station) in June.

Have they started using this in the Seattle Depot?

No, they're still playing the endless loop. No, they're still playing the endless loop. No, they're still playing the endless loop....

I've been looking at the service standards manual and I noticed a few uniform non-compliance issues with the Amtrak employees portrayed in the video. There's an employee without a visible ID tag, another employee is wearing a vest without a jacket and 2 employees don't have their hair correctly tied back. Hmmm, I wonder how that got past HQ. And yes, they're still playing the endless loop....

Wow--an "Eight is Enough" cast member who actually made it through life without checking into rehab.

Thanks for the link to the video---it's well done IMO. It's interesting how a smaller, state-supported unit is able to do things so much better than the National system. The food is better, the equipment is better, the employees are better....Why is that?

The NCDOT initially had a food vendor on the Piedmont doing food service (including BBQ from a steam table) that was far superior to microwaved Amfood. Sadly the independent contractor model didn't work out here and now we're stuck with the dreaded automat cars.
