I assume that many of you read the "National Corridors Initative" I look forward to the newsletter every Monday. In case any of you missed it I have summarized part of the newsletter.

Two articles were of interest to me.

First, was an editorial by the editor of NCI outlining Dem and Repub positions of transportation. Dreaw your own conclusions because it is an editorial.

The other was a very positive report from FRA administrator Joe Szabo. Briefly:

He cited Governor McDonnell (R) of Virginia for expanding Amtrak service in his state.

Overall ridership up 43% since 2000.

Record 30,000,000 passengers with another record year anticipated.

Corridor increases:
Oklahoma City/Texas 28%
Detroit/Chicago 57%
Seattle/Portland 68%
Milwaukee/Chicago 91%
San Jose/Sacremento 123%
Harrisburg/Philadelphia 128%
Charlotte/Raleigh 155%

OTP at an all time high.

Long term debt reduced by 39% over 10 years.

Net passenger cost per mile at all time low, down 85% since 1981.

Reason for improvements cited included:

Identifying and conquering new markets.

New partnering with states to provide regional service.

Wisely reinvesting in infrastructure.

Commentary eagerly anticipated.

The percentage growth in corridor ridership is really remarkable...... look what the NCDOT has done with a handfull of new diesels and a fleet of secondhand KCS coaches.

Is that OTP at an all-time high systemwide or just referring to the corridor operations?

Mr. Notelvis,

It is unclear whether or not the reference is pertaining to just corridors or everything.

The exact wording is: "The rail carrier's overall performance is equally eye-opening. On time performance is at an all time and continues to improve steadily."

This NCI article was taken from the USDOT blog "Fastlane".
