My wife's co-worker and her husband have a trip planned for next week from SYR to NOL. This was to be their first train trip and they were so excited. With all of the problems from Sandy, I'm wondering if AMTRAK would allow them to go from SYR to CHI to NOL. Access to Julie on AMTRAK is impossible.

Can anyone advise me on this situation?

Or from you long time train travelers, would you have an clean-up time. To me, I would think that it will be weeks.

I'm also thinking of driving them to PHL as that may open sooner than NYC. Would AMTRAK allow that?

Thanks in advance.

Joe

Hi Joe,

Presently the Crescent is back in service between Washington and New Orleans with 'limited' connecting service as far north as Philadelphia. This may be the new normal well into next week.

Going to New Orleans via Chicago is an interesting alternative though it may cost a bit more. If your friends were traveling in sleeper that would mean two nights on board as opposed to just one.

Getting in touch with a live Julie is likely going to be neccessary to make any changes (and I bet the live Julies are swamped making contact with live passengers who now have disrupted travel plans).

Were it me, I would certainly ask about the possibility of rerouting via Chicago first and see where that conversation leads.
