I had been meaning to report on how easy it was to get to Newport RI with Amtrak; the stop to get off is Kingston RI aka West Kingston, on the NE Corridor, a cute little station. My friend met me here with a car no problem, but there is also reliable taxi service called Orange Cab as well as a RIPTA bus. There is also decent transportation within Newport, inc RIPTA bus, Harbor trolley, if you want to stay just outside town for cheaper motel rates, although some of that is only in season or weekends. There is a lot to see here, and most of it nicely walkable . . . but it's swamped in summer, esp weekends. We went in June!
