I was wondering if anyone is still around. Just for the sake of posting something, the following is by W.C. Vantuono, of "Railway Age". from last Oct.

https://is.gd/bJiIoz

From the article:

"We have come as far as we can with the Amtrak model. It’s time for Congress to pass an updated Transportation Act creating a Federal Passenger Rail Administration that will have the same authority, governance, mission, status and access to funding as the three other boxes on the USDOT org chart: FHWA, FAA and MARAD".

*******
Happy New Year

Richard

Richard, here's some activity:

Participation at all Amtrak related sites is down. The members at such want to talk about "experiential" travel, but have collectively accepted that such is "gone gone gone" and no amount of "crying is gonna bring it back".

Well, I have always been curious what Mr. Norman thinks of Andrew Selden's (URPA) opinions contending that Amtrak misrepresents the financial performance of LD's. Mr. Seldon was a respected lawyer in the accounting field here in Minnesota, and president of our state rail passenger advocacy group, MinnARP.

On another railfan site, I just saw an opinion he wrote in Railway Age. https://www.railwayage.com/passenger/urpa-responds-to-stephen-gardner/

I always wanted to believe Andrew Selden. I even went to Sunday School with him in the '50s at St. Stephen's Episcopal, where he was the smartest kid in the room. His writings in the MinnARP newsletter were always provocative and fierce, but it was always in print only with no online copies I could bring over to trainweb.

Mr. Norman, your history in accounting and the rail industry makes you uniquely qualified to challenge Mr. Selden.

Here is another OLD local piece on Mr. Selden from public radio. https://www.mprnews.org/story/2007/11/20/passengertrains

Jerry.

January, as well as February, TRAINS has now shown up. Time for me to read this article that has caused the fuss at this site and others.
