I looked at NJ Transit schedules recently, considered the Atlantic City run, but elected to stay on the NEC instead.
Generally how reliable/timely are NJ Transit trains? I get the impression they are on lines with little or no freight traffic, so there should not be many schedule conflicts.

I lived in NJ for a long time before moving to Virginia, and have ridden NJ Transit countless times, most recently in March. Generally, the timekeeping is very reliable, allowing for small delays. I try not to schedule connections closer than about 20 minutes, unless it is a cross-platform connection, such as at Long Branch. Most lines have frequent service (hourly or better), which also helps.
