I live in Adelaide,SA.Australia and last week I travelled 3000 km by 'The Ghan' train to Darwin in the NT.It was a fantastic ride of 48 hours, and the train had 38 cars and 2 locos over 1 km in length, making it the longest passenger train on the planet. It only runs once weekly in either direction, leaving ADL at 1715 on Sundays and arriving at DRW at 1630 on Tuesdays.Return is at 1000 on Wednesdays and arrival in ADL at 0900 on fridays.

Glad you got to ride the new line to Darwin. Does the train actually leave from Keswick? Are they all passenger and baggage cars, or are some freight (goods) cars?
Amtrak's Auto Train is longer than 1 km also, but half of the 'cars' are transporting autos and not people.
