My family and I are planning a cross-country trip from Portland, Oregon to Boston, Mass. My 5year old son is a great fan of trains and steam locomotives. Are there any excursions or museums I should try to visit along the way? Thanks teddymail@sysmatrix.net

A few places you could visit, if you had the time: The Lake Superior Museum of Transport, in Duluth MN, located right downtown in the Duluth Union depot. While you're in the Twin ports, you can also take the time to see the Walter McCarthy, which is a large lake vessel, with tours aboard (approximatly 750 ft. long). There is also a museum in Minneapolis as well ( Sorry, don't have the address hany. Or the URL, for that matter). There is the National Railroad museum in Green Bay, WI. That has several steam locomotives as well as historical exhibits. There are a few tourist train-type operations in the tourist trap known as the WI Dells, but IMO the museum in Green Bay is better. There is Steamtown, in Scranto, PA as well, unfortunatly I'm not that familiar with that museum. of course, if you wantd to incorporate real life trains into the mix, you could take the Builder from Portland eastbound
